I like this in some ways, but in other ways not so much. On a point of accuracy, isn't antiquus head much longer and lower? This looks more like Germanodactylus to me. But what I don't like here is the complete lack of definition on the background one. Pterosaurs weren't a sack-o-flyin' wing--they had bodies! And muscles! And where are the fingers with claws? The joints?

Palaeontography. You know it.

1)Indeed you seem to be rigth it resembles more G. cristatus. I don't know how and where I screwed up
so badly since I traced the outline of the head rigth over Mikes P. antiquus skeletal. :S
Well I guess I'll add some more teeth and extend the crest and call it germanodactylus.
2) yes about the lack of definition. I aimed it lookmore like real animal than on steroids.
it seems to be trend atleast in dinosaurs to pack them full of muscleslike they were flexing every single muscle in their body when truth is that one rarely sees individual muscles so clearly due to fat and skin tissues and insulation layer (hair etc.).
I propably went too far with the lack of definition on the body though. and yes joint definately need detail.
3) Lack of claws is purely layer selecting failure. :(
I initially had great problems of getting the fingers look natural so to be on the safe side I made idividual layer for them. And so I propably failed to select the damn layer or the layer order changed while I was merging them.

Thanks for criticism John! I'll try to get it rigth on the next version. :)

I think the reason for the Germanodactylusyness comes from the angle between the quadrate and the ventral margin of the upper jaw, which should be rather close to straight. The braincase should also be much rounder and lies a bit farther back. Basically, I'd take another look at the whole of the post-orbital region of the head. The præ-orbital region region is not too bad, P. antiquus does have a tiny bit deeper skull than usually restored ([link]) though shouthing makes it look like it is a little exaggerated.
I think it would be more trouble to turn it into Germanodactylus, they are really quite different ([link]).

I just noticed that the crest is too far forward, at least compared to what is known from the fossils. This could have something to do with your problem.

Good work! Those foreground feathers look very realistic. The reds are so strong, I would guess it was that time of the year for the pterodactyls, if you know what I mean! I could see this being used to advertise an airline for some strange reason. :giggle:

Creatures as dangerous as me have to be kept on a leash by law. The other restraints are just for fun!
